Statement by U.S. Conference of Mayors on Mass Shooting in Glendale, Arizona

Washington, DC - Below is a statement by U.S. Conference of Mayors President Columbus (OH) Mayor Andrew Ginther on last night's mass shooting outside a Glendale (AZ) restaurant:

"America's mayors mourn the tragic shooting in Glendale last night that took the lives of at least three people and injured five more. All of the victims were between 16 and 29; two of those killed were brothers. It's a sorry state of affairs in our nation when young people cannot safely enjoy an evening out with friends and family.

"We stand with Glendale Mayor Jerry Weiers as he comforts the victims' families and friends and begins to guide his city through the healing process.

"This was the 97th mass shooting in the United States this year. America's mayors know too well that it's not if such an event will occur in their cities, but when. This must stop. Once again, America's mayors call on Congress to put partisan differences aside, pass common sense gun safety legislation, and reject bills currently under consideration that would weaken our current gun safety laws."
