Mayor Lisa Brown has ordered flags at all City facilities to be lowered to half-staff to coincide with Governor Bob Ferguson's directive that state and U.S. flags at all state agency facilities be lowered on Sunday, May 31, in honor of those who lost their lives in the mass casualty event at the Nippon Dynawave facility in Longview, Washington.

On May 26, 2026, a tank ruptured at the Nippon Dynawave facility, killing nine people. Flags will remain at half-staff until close of business or sunset on Sunday, June 7, or first thing Monday morning, June 8.

Mayor Brown encourages anyone with a flag outside of their home or business to join us in this recognition to honor their memory.
