New Interchange at I-475 and U.S. 20A set to open early August

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - (Friday, July 25, 2025) The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) invites the public to an event ahead of the opening of a new interchange at Interstate 475 and U.S. 20A, Maumee.

The event will be held Monday, Aug. 4, at 2 p.m., on U.S. 20A on the east side (Spartan Chemical side) of the interchange on the north bridge. ODOT and local officials, along with area business representatives, will provide remarks regarding the significance of the interchange, and how it will positively affect logistics in the area.

The day of the event, U.S. 20A will be closed between Ford Street and Briarfield Boulevard, except at access points for local businesses. Participants may park on U.S. 20A on either the east or west side of the bridge and walk to the event site. ODOT personnel will direct participants to parking.

The interchange is expected to open to traffic later the same week.

The interchange -- a DDI (diverging diamond interchange) -- replaced an overpass carrying U.S. 20A over I-475.

"We're adding a new highway asset -- a new interchange of the most modern design currently available in traffic engineering," said Pat McColley, ODOT District 2 deputy director. "We'd like the public to be part of this, and to personally experience this new highway infrastructure prior to its opening," he said.

The project began in 2022 and constructed the interchange at U.S. 20A, widened approximately five miles of I-475 between U.S. 24 and Airport Highway and reconstructed the existing pavement, replaced the bridges over the Norfolk Southern Railroad and over Monclova Road, and resurfaced approximately three miles of U.S. 24 from Waterville-Monclova Road to just east of the I-475 interchange.

The DDI is the second in northwest Ohio. The first was constructed at I-475 and State Route 25 in Perrysburg and opened in 2017.
