Mexico's Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses deep concern over the recent operations conducted by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in various U.S. cities, particularly in Los Angeles, California. These operations have resulted in the detention of migrants, including Mexicans.
The Government of Mexico reiterates its unwavering commitment to protecting and defending the human rights of Mexicans abroad, regardless of their immigration status.
The government respectfully but firmly calls on U.S. authorities to conduct all immigration procedures with due process, respecting human dignity and the rule of law.
Mexico has immediately activated assistance and consular protection programs via its consular network to ensure that detained citizens receive proper legal counsel and fair treatment. Our consulates have intensified efforts to inform the Mexican community about their rights and actions they can take if they are involved in an immigration operation.
The Government of Mexico will continue using all available diplomatic and legal channels to express its opposition to practices that criminalize migration and endanger the safety and well-being of our communities in the United States.
Migration must be addressed from a comprehensive, humane perspective with shared regional responsibility. Mexico reiterates its readiness to continue collaborating with the U.S. government to find solutions that prioritize respect for human rights, legality, and shared development.
