Portland, OR - One year after its passage, Oregonians continue to face the devastating impacts of Donald Trump's Big Ugly Bill. As the bill's most devastating provisions begin to take effect this year, experts have warned that the law could strip as many as 200,000 Oregonians of their health coverage.
Some of the cruelest attacks on health care include: nearly $1 trillion in cuts to Medicaid nationwide, frequent eligibility redeterminations, work requirements, and a more complicated eligibility process. These far-right policies stripping low-income and working Oregonians of their health care coverage have been a priority of Republican candidate for governor Christine Drazan since her first term in the Oregon legislature.
As of May 2026, the Oregon Health Plan provides coverage to one in three Oregonians, and 56% of Oregon children ages 0-17. Last year, Drazan voted against bipartisan legislation to fund the Oregon Health Plan, threatening to reduce or eliminate coverage for these Oregonians and disproportionately impact rural communities.
"Christine Drazan has made it clear she won't fight for Oregonians' access to health care - she'll fight to take it away," said Democratic Party of Oregon Chair Nathan Soltz. "As the Trump Administration strips health care away from low-income families, Oregon can't afford a MAGA politician like Drazan doing Trump's work here at home."
