Public invited to tour new rehabilitation hospital at upcoming open houses

PeaceHealth is inviting the public to see the state-of-the-art PeaceHealth Springfield Rehabilitation Hospital at three open house opportunities later this week prior to its official opening.

The hospital will be available for residents to stroll through on Thursday, Aug. 20, from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.; and on Friday, Aug. 21, from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. It is located at 3555 Game Farm Road.

Attendees can see how the 67,000-square-foot hospital was designed with a patient-centered focus and incorporates numerous details and technologies to help them recover from a range of injuries. That includes a car to refamiliarize themselves with getting in and out of a vehicle, a simulated apartment to help once patients transition out of the facility, as well as options for outdoor activities, a 3,000-square-foot gym and more to aid in recovery.

The hospital is the first freestanding inpatient rehabilitation hospital in the state and includes the region's first dedicated traumatic brain injury unit. It will serve 42 patients to start, expanding to 60, to meet the community's growing need for more intensive treatments and often-complex recovery processes.

The facility officially opens in September when the new hospital begins admitting patients and operations are gradually wound down in the current unit at Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend. The move will free up space at RiverBend for other needs and increase the system's overall capacity as the beds are made available for general use.

The hospital will be jointly owned and operated by PeaceHealth and Lifepoint Rehabilitation, an operating division of Lifepoint Health.
