The Greensboro Public Library is hosting its semi-annual Meet an Author Day from 1-4 pm, Saturday, August 9 at Central Library, 219 N. Church St. This free event is an opportunity for customers to talk with more than a dozen well-known North Carolina writers, have books signed, attend a workshop and learn more about the publishing world.
This year's event features USA Today bestselling author Vanessa Miller. Her writing has centered on themes of redemption and strong black women in pivotal moments of history. Miller's book, The American Queen, won the prestigious Christy Award, the Audie Award and was the 2024 American Fiction Award winner for Historical Fiction. The American Queen was also a North Carolina Reads pick for 2025. Miller will speak from 3-4 pm.
At 2 pm, there will be a Writers Workshop with Dominque Daye Hunter, Unleash the Story Within Workshop: A Step-by-Step Overview of Writing and Publishing Your Book Idea. As an Afro-Indigenous disabled, neuro-divergent woman, Hunter uses her skills and experiences to connect people with their roots and reclaim their voice.
Other authors represent a variety of genres including fiction, non-fiction, young adult/children's and poetry. Authors scheduled to appear include: A.A. Achibane, Brian King, Jim Zola, Leonard Washington III, Merrell McIwain, Neal Owen, Patricia Lewis, Scott Blackburn, Toneysha Frisby, Traci Claywell, and Kianna Alexander.
