Washington, D.C. - Today, the House passed legislation to protect access to affordable health care through enhanced premium tax credits for Americans who buy health coverage on the Marketplaces set up by the Affordable Care Act (ACA). This past December, the Conference sent a letter tocongressional leaders, urging them to extend the tax credits before they expire.
Following today's votes, Allentown Mayor Matt Tuerk, chair of the U.S. Conference of Mayors' (USCM) Children, Health, and Human Services Committee, released the statement below:
"Health care affordability is reaching a crisis point for many families. Americans are already struggling to keep up with rising prices. If Congress fails to act, the surge in health care costs will push too many family budgets past the breaking point and many Americans will be priced out of the insurance they rely on for access to health care. America's mayors are pleased to see the House come together in a bipartisan fashion to protect access to affordable health care. We urge the Senate to act quickly and renew the expired subsidies to ensure American families can still afford their health care coverage."
