Following the signature, in October 2024, of a comprehensive framework agreement between the Tanger Med Group and CMA CGM, Marsa Maroc and CMA Terminals today announce the signing of a partnership agreement marking CMA Terminals' entry into the share capital of the company holding the concession for the West Terminal at the Port of Nador West Med, a major Moroccan port located on the Mediterranean.
Upon completion of this agreement, subject to the approval of the competent authorities, Marsa Maroc will hold 51% of the share capital and voting rights of the concession company, while CMA Terminals will hold the remaining 49%.
Set to become progressively operational from 2027, the terminal will feature 900 linear meters of quay, a draft of 18 meters, and 37.5 hectares of yard area, covering a total surface of 60 hectares. It will ultimately be equipped with eight ship-to-shore cranes (STS) and will have a throughput capacity of up to 1.8 million TEUs per year.
As the result of a strategic partnership between two leading players in the port and maritime sectors, the terminal will benefit both from CMA CGM's global network, capable of generating significant cargo volumes, and from Marsa Maroc's operational expertise and local presence.
This partnership aims to develop a state-of-the-art terminal at Nador West Med, meeting the highest international standards of performance and connectivity. It will also help position the port as a major transshipment hub in the Mediterranean, enhancing Morocco's logistical attractiveness and integration into the world's main shipping lanes.
Ideally located near the Strait of Gibraltar, in the Bay of Betoya, at the mouth of the Oued Kert River, Nador West Med benefits from significant geographic advantages, complementing the terminals already operated by the CMA CGM Group in the Western Mediterranean.
