Upcoming classes:

Life Safety Code 101- September 1, 2026 I 8:30 a.m. 4:30 p.m. SafetyWorks! Training Institute, Department of Labor, 45 Commerce Drive, Augusta

This one-day class will provide a working overview of National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Standard 101 "Life Safety Code" for fire and life safety in the building environment. Topics covered will include classification of occupancy types, adequate means of egress, occupant load factors, and occupancy specific hazards to fire and life safety. The Life Safety Code is adopted in the State of Maine as the state code for fire and life safety in buildings.

Lifting & Rigging Safety September 3, 2026 I 8:30 a.m. 12:30 p.m. SafetyWorks! Training Institute, Department of Labor, 45 Commerce Drive, Augusta

This class covers requirements for training, personal protective equipment (PPE) for firefighters and Emergency Medical Service (EMS) providers who will be controlling traffic at unplanned motor vehicle accidents. Musculoskeletal (MSK) injuries can be a challenge to recognize as they often come on gradually from repetitive use or sprain/strain injuries in the workplace, from mechanism of injury how to aid recovery. This class provides thorough and comprehensive six-hour training for both new and experienced safety and human resources personnel. You will learn the OSHA rule (29 CFR 1904) regarding recording and reporting work-related injuries and illnesses as it applies to your organization, including COVID-19 recordability guidance. This class includes several hands-on activities on how to correctly fill out the required injury reporting forms.
