According to recent research, we found that nearly half of people surveyed (49%) say an outfit compliment gives their confidence a real boost.

But not enough people are getting them with one in four people saying they haven't received a compliment on their outfit in the past month, creating a compliment deficit. At Stitch Fix, everything we do is about helping people look and feel their best. In fact, 85% of clients agree that Stitch Fix helps them dress with more confidence , reinforcing just how powerful the right outfit-and the right styling support-can be.

New Insights Reveal the True Power of Compliments and Style Confidence

As we looked deeper into the connection between style and confidence, we uncovered just how emotional getting dressed has become and how meaningful compliments truly are:

• Getting dressed comes with real emotional stakes: 70% of people say they second guess their outfit before leaving the house, with 45% second-guessing once a week or more.
• IRL still wins: Over 65% of people say receiving a real-life compliment delivers a bigger confidence boost than a like or comment on social media
• The compliment domino effect: 60% of people say receiving a compliment inspires them to pass one on, helping alleviate the compliment deficit we're currently experiencing.
• Style compliments boost productivity: Nearly half (46%) of people say compliments on their outfit make them feel more motivated and productive at work.
