Prime Minister Evika Silina joined the Coalition of the Willing meeting via video call on Saturday, May 10, where leaders voiced their support for the United States (U.S.) and demanded Russia launch a 30-day ceasefire.
"The states of the Coalition of the Willing fully support the U.S. in its call for a 30-day ceasefire in Ukraine. If Russia violates it, the Coalition along with the U.S and other countries are prepared to introduce significantly tougher sanctions against Russia," the Prime Minister said, noting that sanctions would hit the financial and energy sectors.
E. Silina said what was discussed at the Coalition of the Willing meeting today continued the discussions initiated during the recent Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF) meeting in Oslo, Norway.
"Together with leaders of JEF countries on a phone call with the U.S. President Donald Trump, we agreed on a public statement and a strong appeal to Putin for a 30-day unconditional ceasefire in Ukraine," the Prime Minister said.
The Prime Minister emphasized that today's meeting was particularly significant given that the newly elected Chancellor of Germany, the President of France, and the Prime Ministers of the United Kingdom and Poland joined the meeting in person in Kyiv.
The Coalition of the Willing meeting was held in hybrid format with some leaders attending in person in Kiev, while the majority joined the conversation remotely. The Coalition brings together the countries willing and prepared to provide their support to Ukraine.
