For exercise to errands and everything in between, there are plenty of USA-made options to choose from.

Women's leggings, as we know them today, became a mass market item in the 1960s shortly after the invention of Lycra by Joseph Shivers in 1958. Lycra, also known as spandex or elastane, is the stretchy, form-fitting fabric that appears to be skin-tight but retains comfortable stretching properties.

Lycra is most often combined with other fabrics like cotton to manufacture luxurious leggings that women use for activewear, whether it be yoga, exercise, lounging around the house or an evening on the town.

These days leggings fall under the fashion category 'athleisure' and have become a wardrobe staple because of their comfort and versatility. Advance textile technologies have enhanced their performance, creating functional fabrics with sweat-wicking capabilities.

They're also a big business. Market research for 2025 projects that Americans will purchase approximately 98.3 million pairs of leggings or tights and the women's market is expected to generate more than $648 million in revenue for the year.

While there may be a slowdown in leggings popularity with Gen Z shoppers, all you have to do is walk through almost any crowd at a shopping mall, sporting event or concert and you'll see many women wearing them. People of all ages, and all body types, love their leggings because of their comfort and ease of care.

And it's conceivable that you could wear a pair of leggings from morning until bedtime. If you pair the leggings with boots or heels and cover the waistline with a luxurious sweater or top, in most locales you're ready for a night out on the town in most locales.

There are hundreds of leggings brands that source manufacturing from China, but there are also plenty of American-made brands to shop from. As in most manufacturing, you will find the American-made leggings of higher quality, and they will last much longer.

American-made leggings are generally sold in a price range of $35 to $120, depending on the styling and accoutrements. Below is a list of several American-made legging brands:
