Statement from Representative John W. Mannion on Supreme Court's Tariff Decision
SYRACUSE, NY - Congressman John W. Mannion (NY-22) today released the following statement:
"For the past year, the House and Senate majorities have failed to confront Donald Trump's affordability crisis or defend Congress's Article I authority. Today's decision is a win for American families who have been paying the price for that failure for far too long.
The Court made clear that the President's sweeping global tariffs were illegal - a direct rebuke of an attempt to impose massive taxes on American families without congressional authorization. Tariffs are a tax, and a recent analysis shows nearly 90 percent of the cost of these tariffs have been paid by American businesses and consumers - not by foreign governments as President Trump wants you to believe.
The Constitution grants Congress the authority to regulate foreign commerce. That separation of powers is what the founders intended, and today the Supreme Court enforced it."
