2026 AHF Readers' Choice Award Finalist Spotlight #1: Mosaic Apartments

Are you ready to meet NEF's first 2026 AHF Readers' Choice Award Finalist? Mosaic Apartments is one of our finalists in the Seniors category.

Mosaic Apartments is a 48-unit, 100% affordable senior housing community in Pittsburgh's Oakland neighborhood and the first LGBTQ+-affirming affordable senior housing development in Western Pennsylvania. Developed by Presbyterian SeniorCare Network and Affirmative Investments, Inc., the apartments provide safe, inclusive housing for low-income seniors earning 20-80% of the Area Median Income (AMI), with 35 units supported by project-based vouchers that limit rent to 30% of residents' income.

Mosaic Apartments was made possible through innovative public-private partnerships, including donated land from UPMC, the University of Pittsburgh, and Dialysis Clinic Inc., along with significant public financing. Community input from LGBTQ+ organizations shaped the building's design and services, creating a welcoming environment that promotes dignity, health, and social connection. Residents benefit from wellness programs, lifelong learning opportunities, and individualized supportive services. Demand has been overwhelming, with all units leased within a month and a waitlist of 163 people, demonstrating the critical need for affordable, affirming senior housing and establishing Mosaic Apartments as a national model for inclusive community development.
