Expanding access to emergency care in Pace

Ascension Sacred Heart is expanding its commitment to accessible, high-quality emergency care with the construction of a new freestanding emergency department (FSED) in Pace at the Five Points area. The nearly 10,000-square-foot facility will be located at the intersection of Berryhill Road and Chumuckla Highway.

Ground was broken in August in anticipation of construction, which is slated for completion in the spring of 2026. Ascension Sacred Heart's newest FSED will house nine treatment spaces, a critical care room, triage area, and advanced imaging technologies like CT and X-ray.

The ER facility will be operated by Ascension Sacred Heart Pensacola, as well as Studer Family Children's Hospital at Ascension Sacred Heart. The Pensacola hospital has the region's only Level I Trauma Center.

When emergency care is needed on the main campus, the Sacred Heart ER concierge program can coordinate transportation and schedule follow-up appointments with providers.

"Our journey in Pace began 27 years ago, and as the community has grown, so have we," said Will Condon, President and CEO of Ascension Sacred Heart Pensacola. "The freestanding ER is a testament to our ongoing commitment to delivering accessible, quality healthcare to the communities we serve."

With round-the-clock emergency care and a highly trained medical team, the new FSED will ensure that residents in the growing Pace community won't have to travel far in times of crisis.

This development addresses the anticipated population growth in the Pace area, ensuring timely emergency care for the community. Staffed by over 40 healthcare professionals, the ER will operate 24/7, providing immediate care for conditions such as heart attacks, strokes, trauma, and severe illnesses.

Sacred Heart has a long-standing commitment to serving the needs of the Pace community, starting with the Primary Care Office in 1988 to the Pace Medical Park on U.S. 90 that provides primary care, adult and pediatric rehabilitation, OB-GYN services, cardiovascular care, breast health and mammography and labs.

Expanding critical access to emergency services is a key part of Ascension's strategy to meet community needs, delivering Mission-driven healthcare to more patients across Northwest Florida, said Mike Shaw, chief strategy officer of Ascension Florida.

Ascension Sacred Heart has built three other freestanding ERs within the last six years, with the most recent in Perdido Key. The other two locations are in Navarre and Nine Mile Road.
