City of St. Petersburg Accepting Applications for Community Benefits Advisory Council

Starting Sunday, February 1, the City of St. Petersburg is accepting applications for Standing Member positions on the Community Benefits Advisory Council (CBAC). The CBAC is a non-partisan board that advises the Mayor and City Council on matters related to the City's Community Benefits Program.

The City's Community Benefits Program requires developers to provide community benefits for projects that include City participation. Benefits may include activities in the following areas: affordable housing, environmental resiliency and sustainability, public infrastructure, equitable workforce development, equitable economic opportunities, and neighborhood health and safety.

Qualifications & Requirements

The CBAC currently consists of four Standing Members: two appointed by the Mayor and two by the City Council. Each Standing Member must be from a different City Council District.

The City Council is seeking applications from residents of the following City Council Districts: 1, 2, 4, 6, 7, or 8. Mayoral appointments currently represent districts 3 and 5. Interested residents can reference this map to determine their City Council District.

Standing Members serve no more than two three-year terms.

Standing Members are required to file a Form 1 - Statement of Financial Interests annually. Additionally, when serving on a project-specific committee, members will be required to attest that they have no financial or other conflict of interest with the project under review.

CBAC Standing Member Responsibilities

The CBAC Standing Member responsibilities include:

  • Advising the City on matters related to the Community Benefits Program, including measuring community impact, neighborhood engagement, and specific project eligibility
  • Participating in meetings with affected neighborhood(s) to solicit public input
  • Making recommendations on Term Sheets and Development Agreements
  • Serve on project committee(s), convened on a project-by-project basis, which will include at least four meetings when reviewing a project, twice in the neighborhood(s) most affected by the project to hear community input, and twice to recommend preliminary and final community benefits packages to City Council

How to Apply

Applications will be accepted from February 1 through February 28. More information and the application can be found at https://www.stpete.org/CBAC.
