In 2025, the estimated number of nights spent at tourist accommodation establishments in the EU reached 3.08 billion, exceeding the previous year by 61.5 million, or 2%.
The growth in tourism nights was mainly driven by an increase in nights spent by international guests (+46.1 million), while the nights spent by domestic guests saw growth at a slower pace (+15.4 million). Overall, the EU tourism nights were fairly balanced between international (49%) and domestic guests (51%).
This information comes from early estimates on tourism published by Eurostat today. The article presents a handful of findings from the more detailed Statistics Explained article on nights spent at tourist accommodation establishments.

In terms of accommodation type, hotels and similar accommodation recorded 1.9 billion nights (63% of the total), followed by holiday dwellings and other short-stay accommodation with 743 million (24%) and campsites with 413 million (13%).
Compared with 2024, in 2025 the number of nights spent in tourist accommodation rose in nearly all EU countries. The largest increase was recorded in Malta (+10%), Poland (+7%) and Latvia (+6%). Slight decreases were recorded in Romania (-1%) and Ireland (-2%).
