As a follow-up to the Director-General's visit, a high-level consultative meeting was convened on February 18th, 2026, at Allama Iqbal Open University in Islamabad. Jointly led by the UNESCO Country Representative and the Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training, this session served as an elaboration on the Pakistan-UNESCO Strategic Cooperation Roadmap for 2026-2030. The meeting gathered federal and provincial leadership alongside key stakeholders to ensure that the strategic cooperation is effectively integrated into national priorities and international commitments.
The conclusion of the meeting saw all parties' express satisfaction with the established strategic direction, collectively agreeing to move toward concrete actions as a follow-up to this roadmap. This unified approach focuses on high-impact priorities that cut across Education, Sciences, Culture, Communication and Information sectors. These sectors address complex challenges of the country including the 26 million out-of-school children, safeguarding of tangible and intangible cultural heritage, disaster risk reduction and water security, as well as digital transformation and Artificial Intelligence (AI).
By prioritizing both system strengthening and direct community impact for women and youth, the government and UNESCO have committed to a localized framework that will guide joint efforts through 2030, to build a more resilient and equitable future for Pakistan.
