AECOM launches its first Stretch Reconciliation Action Plan

AECOM sets ambitious new targets to strengthen its commitment to reconciliation with First Nations employees, businesses in its supply chain and the wider community

BRISBANE (March 26 2026) - AECOM, the trusted global infrastructure leader, today announced it joins the five percent of Australian Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) partner organisations to achieve an endorsed RAP at Stretch level.

Since beginning its reconciliation journey in 2014, AECOM has progressively deepened its understanding, ambition and accountability through successive RAPs. The Stretch RAP marks a new phase, embedding reconciliation practice into long-term business strategy and expanding commitments to cultural capability, employment pathways and First Nations procurement.

"Reaching this milestone - our first Stretch Reconciliation Action Plan - reflects our deepening commitment and dedication to meaningful and lasting change," said Mark McManamny, AECOM's chief executive for its Australia and New Zealand region. "Our responsibilities extend beyond our workplace. As leaders in the development and delivery of city-shaping infrastructure, we have the privileged opportunity to make sure what we deliver respects Country and safeguards the cultural knowledge and practices of our First Nations communities. We continue to walk alongside our clients, sharing what we've learnt and supporting them to advance their own reconciliation goals."

AECOM's Stretch RAP outlines action areas focused on increasing employee cultural capability, creating stronger pathways for First Nations employment and professional development, and building enduring partnerships with First Nations businesses and communities.

"Our Stretch Reconciliation Action Plan has been developed in collaboration with employees, including First Nations employees, and external advisors whose lived experience and cultural perspectives have directly informed our commitments," said Corie Taylor, AECOM's First Nations engagement lead. "For the first time, our dedicated RAP committee includes an external First Nations community member, bringing important independent insight to challenge our perspectives and strengthen our capacity for meaningful action. Our committee will continue to guide the implementation and ongoing progress of our Stretch RAP."

AECOM's Stretch RAP targets include, but are not limited to:

Employee cultural capability

  • Implement and communicate a cultural learning strategy with 95 percent of all staff undertaking formal and structured online cultural learning.

Pathways for First Nations employment and professional growth

  • Achieve one percent First Nations representation within its Australian employee base by 2029 (currently at 0.8 percent).
  • Review human resources and recruitment procedures and policies to remove barriers to First Nations participation in the workplace.
  • Support First Nations staff to take on management and senior-level positions by ensuring career development plans are designed and executed with a mentor/sponsor/manager.

Enduring partnerships with First Nations businesses and communities

  • Maintain formal two-way partnerships with First Nations organisations: Career Trackers and Engineering Aid Australia. Establish a third partnership.
  • Partner with Reconciliation Australia to support the establishment of an infrastructure-focused Reconciliation Impact Network Group.
  • Develop and implement a First Nations procurement strategy.
  • Maintain commercial relationships with 40 First Nations businesses.
  • Allocate at least two percent of third-party supplier spend in Australia to First Nations businesses.
