Controlling Board Approves $4.5 Million for High School Tech Internship Program

COLUMBUS - The Ohio Controlling Board approved funds to support the High School Tech Internship program, which provides students with real-world experience in tech-related roles at an early age, announced State Representative Sarah Fowler Arthur (R-Ashtabula).

The High School Tech Internship program reimburses Ohio employers for hosting high school interns in technology-focused roles. The High School Tech Internship program aims to provide businesses with the tech talent they need while also providing students with valuable work experience at an early age.

"It is never too early to increase opportunities for students to gain hands-on employment experience," said Fowler Arthur. "The tech industry is rapidly growing, and Ohio is continuing to do its part to create strong partnerships between future employees and employers, which will help our economy thrive."

The students are expected to perform job duties similar to entry-level employees in technology roles focusing on software development, data, cloud, IT infrastructure, cybersecurity, and broadband/5 G-related roles.

The application period to become an intermediary through the High School Tech Internship program closes October 4, 2024, at 5:00 p.m. Selected intermediaries will administer the program regionally for internships in the summer of 2025.
