Learn about international opportunities and perspectives during International Education Week

Western's Office of Global Engagement will celebrate International Education Week Nov. 17-21 with several events promoting study abroad programs and international scholarship, highlighting international students and exploring global opportunities for students and graduates.

President Sabah Randhawa came to the U.S. as an international student in graduate school, said he knows first-hand about the transformative value of international education.

"The experience was much more than access to high quality education, though that, too, is important," Randhawa said. "It is about the interconnectedness of human values and experiences. It is about developing a deeper understanding of different cultures and learning about the richness of humanity across the globe."

International Education Week at WWU will include several events:

  • WWU Around the World: Come meet international students studying at WWU on exchange, learn about their home universities and cultures, and get inspired to go abroad yourself. Exchange is one of the most affordable, immersive pathways to study abroad. Tuesday, Nov. 18, 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Viking Union 565 A/B/C.
  • Western Abroad Planning Workshop: Learn about cost-effective programs, how to "pay less than in-state to study abroad" scholarships, financial aid and other next steps. Get started on your study abroad plans Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2 to 3 p.m. and Nov. 20, 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. in Haggard Hall 101. Find more study abroad planning resources here.
  • Mongolia Speaker Series: Environmentalism and Ecology in Contemporary Mongolian Society. Hear from visiting lecturer Anna Dubuy, a social anthropologist specializing in the daily interactions between people and household waste in contemporary Mongolia. Wednesday, Nov. 19, 4 to 5 p.m. in Miller Hall 112.
  • Peace Corps and Worldstrides Geography Bee: Test your geography skills, win prizes and learn about study abroad and post-grad opportunities to make a positive impact in the world. Thursday, Nov. 20, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Carver Hall 104.
  • Film Screening and Symposium: Noticing the Neglected: Public Architecture, Perfect Days, and Perspectives on Equity: The 2023 Wim Wenders film, "Perfect Days" will be screened at the Pickford Film Center on Thursday, Nov. 20 at 5:45, followed by a symposium Friday, Nov. 21 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Fine Arts 238 and on Zoom, bringing together scholars analyzing "Perfect Days" from a social justice perspective. Fifty free student tickets will be available for the screening.
  • Peace Corps Music from Around the World Challenge: Come identify the countries where Peace Corps serves and learn about music from each country. Friday, Nov. 21, from 1 to 2 p.m., Miller Hall 138.
