NAVER (CEO Choi Soo-yeon) will launch a "BE LOCAL" campaign to introduce popular hot places in Korea to foreign tourists through "NAVER Map," which has become an essential app for foreign tourists.
The campaign will run for a month from April 14thto May 13thtargeted at users who use NAVER Map in a foreign language. As Japan's Golden Week holiday (April 29-May 6) marks one of the busiest times of the year for foreign tourist visits, strong interest and participation in the campaign are anticipated during this peak travel period.
The BE LOCAL campaign introduces restaurants, cafes, fashion, and complex cultural spaces that are highly preferred among millennial and Gen Z Koreans in popular tourist areas such as Myeong-dong, Seongsu, Itaewon, and Hannam-dong. By clicking the 'BeLocal' tab on Naver Map, users can discover the most frequently saved restaurants, attractions, and experiences among Koreans in their 20s and 30s.
In addition, promotions will be held in collaboration with fashion, cosmetics, and lifestyle brands preferred by foreign tourists visiting Korea. Through the Naver Map app, users can access discount coupons redeemable at brand stores such as Olive Young, Innisfree, Musinsa, and SK Telecom. Starting in May, users who download the Naver Map app and visit partner stores will also be eligible to receive exclusive BE LOCAL campaign merchandise."
NAVER Map has already established itself as an essential app for traveling to Korea among foreigners. Since launching its multilingual version in 2018, NAVER Map has continuously enhanced features for international users. Leveraging Papago's AI translation technology, the app provides translations of Korean text reviews as well as place filters tailored to user preferences in English, Chinese, and Japanese."
Particularly, in December last year, the "Smart Shortcut to Explore Korea", a NAVER Map usage guide page was opened to guide people in multiple languages, from searching for places worth visiting to finding public transportation directions. NAVER plans to improve its NAVER Pay service so that foreign users can more conveniently use NAVER reservations, orders, and payments during the first half of this year.
"NAVER Map is a platform that best understands the latest trends in Korea based on the nation's largest level of location information and vivid visitor reviews," said Lee Sangchul, leader of NAVER Place, "NAVER will help foreign users travel more conveniently in Korea and enjoy a richer experience of Korean culture and trends through the multilingual version of NAVER Map."
