From the podium of Room I at UNESCO Headquarters, the President of the 43rd session of the General Conference, H.E. Mr Khondker M. Talha, delivered a powerful message of unity, recognition and responsibility as the Organization marked the World Day for African and Afro-Descendant Culture.
Held under the theme "Cultural heritage, progress and harmony: Engaging African youth to strengthen peace in the world," the 2026 celebration brought together diplomats, cultural leaders, artists and young innovators from across UNESCO's geographical regions. The President framed the day as both a celebration and a call to action.
