County Executive Anthony J. Picente Jr. announced today the appointment of Alexis W. Albright as Oneida County historian.
"Alexis Albright brings a deep knowledge of local history, a strong professional background and a demonstrated commitment to preserving and promoting Oneida County's heritage," Picente said. "She has been actively engaged in historical preservation and community education for years, and I am confident she will effectively lead our county's historical efforts into an important new chapter."
A graduate of Oriskany Central School, Albright holds an associate degree in liberal arts from Mohawk Valley Community College and a Bachelor of Science Degree in History from Clarkson University. Since 2018, she has served as curator of the Oriskany Museum and was appointed municipal historian for the Village of Oriskany in 2019. She also previously served as village clerk in Oriskany from 2020 to 2023.
In addition to her professional experience, Albright is actively involved in numerous local and regional historical and civic organizations, including serving as secretary of the Battle of Oriskany Historical Society, president of the Oneida County Historians Association, trustee of the Oriskany Cemetery Association, and co-founder and co-chair of the Oriskany Farmers Market.
"I am grateful to be given this new opportunity by County Executive Picente to work with local historians and residents to highlight the rich heritage of Oneida County," Albright said. "It is an exciting time to work in local history as we prepare to commemorate the 250th anniversary of both our nation's founding and the Battle of Oriskany. We are incredibly fortunate to be able to study numerous aspects of our nation's history through the history of Oneida County itself."
As county historian, Albright will be responsible for preserving, documenting and promoting Oneida County's historical resources, as well as supporting local historians and historical organizations throughout the County.
Albright's appointment was approved by the Oneida County Board of Legislators at its Jan. 21st meeting.
She replaces former Oneida County historian Joseph P. Bottini who retired after serving in the role since 2014.
