BATON ROUGE, LA - October 13, 2025 - The Office of Mayor-President Sid Edwards has partnered with the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) to begin washing the concrete sound walls along I-10 eastbound and westbound between Acadian Thruway and the I-10/I-12 split.
The project will utilize drone technology provided by LA Drone Services, which has been contracted to perform the work. The innovative cleaning method allows for efficient and safe cleaning of the aging sound walls without disrupting daytime traffic flow.
Pending final approval from DOTD, overnight lane closures will begin on Wednesday to accommodate the work. DOTD will announce specific closure times and locations once approvals are complete.
"This is what teamwork looks like," said Mayor-President Sid Edwards. "When you have a beautiful city, you take care of it. These sound walls are what people see coming in and out of Baton Rouge every day. Keeping them clean sends a message that we take pride in our home, we work together, and we care about how Baton Rouge looks."
The cleaning effort represents a cost-share partnership between DOTD and the City-Parish, with the project expected to take approximately 10 to 12 working days and nights to complete. Most of the work will take place during nighttime hours to limit traffic impacts. Only one section, located in a grassy buffer zone near the College Drive exit, has been addressed during daytime hours.
For up-to-date lane closure information, motorists are encouraged to follow DOTD's official announcements and use caution when traveling through work zones.
