City Of Las Vegas 2026 African American Trailblazer Service Awards Ceremony
Thursday, Jan. 29, At 9 A.M. In City Hall Council Chambers
The 2026 African American Trailblazer Service Awards ceremony will be held Thursday, Jan. 29, starting at 9 a.m. at Las Vegas City Hall Council Chambers, 495 S. Main St., as part of the city's Black History Month celebration. The awards honor residents of the Las Vegas valley who have made outstanding civic accomplishments and significant contributions to the Las Vegas community in the following categories:

Business and Economic Advancement Award - A'Esha Goins. This award recognizes local business professionals who have displayed entrepreneurial character, high standards, innovative professional practice, and a committed support of their local community. Goins specializes in empowering communities and businesses through policy advocacy, strategic outreach, team development and other policy services through her company, Black Joy Strategies.

Community Activism and Politics Award - Dwayne Henderson. This award recognizes an individual who has demonstrated, through his or her achievements, the ability to advocate, organize and engage citizens, and inform public policy on issues that improve the quality of life for the community. A law enforcement officer for more than 19 years, Henderson has bridged the gap between the police department and the communities he serves through the Black Community Alliance.

Educator Award - Jennifer Young. This award honors those who, as a teacher, instructor or school administrator, have demonstrated excellence in mentoring, guiding and preparing students to achieve their full potential. Young is the UNLV director of Community Engagement & Community Affairs.

Tyrone Thompson Emerging Leader Award - Angel Lash. This award celebrates an up-and-coming individual who demonstrates a commitment to leadership and substantial potential for innovation, creativity, vision and positive influence. Lash is the Eighth Judicial District Court Law Enforcement Intervention for Mental Health & Addiction coordinator. She has worked in the behavioral health field for close to 15 years in the private sector and for nonprofit and government agencies, providing both direct and indirect services to assist adults and youth with addiction and mental health issues.

Spiritual Community Award - Senior Chaplain Michael Thrower. This award is presented to a spiritual leader who has transcended organizational boundaries to promote spiritual and religious growth, partnership and engagement through inspired action and visionary leadership. Thrower is an ordained chaplain, a Nevada licensed minister, the Clark County School District Police chaplain and founder of Adopt A Cop Nevada in 2016.
Nominations from the public were submitted by Oct. 17, 2025. An individual may only nominate one person and may not nominate himself or herself. The ceremony will be broadcast live on city of Las Vegas TV, and on the city of Las Vegas TV YouTube channel.
