S.K. Sundaram, Inamori Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at Alfred University, has been elected to the 2005 Class of Optica Fellows.
According to a statement from Optica-a professional society of individuals and companies with an interest in optics and photonics-Sundaram was honored in recognition of "contributions to the development of structure-terahertz properties relationship and ultrafast laser modification of glasses and ceramics and optical materials education."
Optica was founded in 1915 in Rochester, NY. Over the course of its history, 45 members have been awarded a Nobel Prize in Physics, Chemistry or Physiology/Medicine.
