NPS vessel PEREGRINE runs aground at Keweenaw Upper Entrance

HOUGHTON, MICH. - Early Saturday morning, June 14, at approximately 12:30 am, the 25-foot National Park Service (NPS) Vessel Peregrine ran aground on the break wall at the north end of the Keweenaw Upper Entrance in Hancock, Michigan. NPS staff weretransporting a visitor with a medical emergency to the mainland to seek further medical care when the accident occurred.

A U.S. Coast Guard Station Portage 45-foot Response Boat and crew affected a rescue of all aboard.

The NPS Peregrine was towed to Houghton on Saturday afternoon and there was no fuel or oil discharge. Isle Royale National Park appreciates the coordinated response and support from all involved.
