6 December 2025, Chicago - Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi, and Speaker of Parliament Igor Grosu paid a working visit to Chicago.
The Moldovan officials held discussions with members of the Moldovan community, hosted at the premises of the Consulate General of the Republic of Moldova in Chicago, officially inaugurated on 30 March 2025. The consular office plays an essential role in strengthening ties with the diaspora, facilitating access to high-quality consular services, and promoting the interests of Moldovan citizens in the region.
In the dialogue with the diaspora, Minister Mihai Popșoi reaffirmed the authorities commitment to staying close to citizens abroad, supporting their initiatives, and making full use of their contribution to the modernization of the Republic of Moldova.
The agenda also included meetings with representatives of Dynamic Investments, led by Vasile Sorocean, a company specializing in the construction of industrial facilities and the transportation of heavy goods nationwide in the United States. The company continuously invests in infrastructure and modern services and has fully built two new facilities through its own investments.
The delegation also visited C1 Holding, a group bringing together six companies active in the trucking industry. These companies operate in the United States with a fleet of 220 trucks and 350 trailers, including 85 employees based in the Republic of Moldova.
In the city of Plainfield, Mihai Popșoi and Igor Grosu visited Micola's Savory Smokes, a store owned by Nicolae Ciobanu, who has capitalized on a smoking tradition passed down from generation to generation. The recently established company produces sausages and various types of smoked meats, in compliance with high quality standards.
The officials expressed appreciation for the work and perseverance of Moldovan entrepreneurs in the United States and for their contribution to strengthening the country's image and developing bilateral economic relations. Minister Mihai Popșoi emphasized: "Through active involvement in local communities and dialogue with U.S. authorities, Moldovans in the United States contribute to increasing the visibility of the Republic of Moldova, attracting investments, and expanding trade exchanges."
The delegation also met with Congressman Bill Foster, the representative of the district within whose jurisdiction the Consulate General of the Republic of Moldova in Chicago operates. Discussions focused on recent developments in our country and prospects for Moldovan-American cooperation. Congressman Foster highlighted the active role of the Moldovan community in the economic and social life of the region.
The program also included a meeting with the Mayor of Naperville, Scott A. Wehrli.
