$14,304 donated and over 1,600 items collected
Following the close of a two-week collective effort, Attorney General Charity Clark, the Vermont Bar Association (VBA), the Vermont Paralegal Organization (VPO), and the Vermont Foodbank announced the positive impact of the Vermont Legal Community Fighting Hunger Food Drive. For the past nine years, legal professionals across the state have come together to run the food drive during Hunger Action Month in September. Vermonters have faced many challenges over the years including a COVID-19 pandemic, economic hardships such as inflation and tariffs, and cuts to federal nutrition programs. These challenges have made it difficult to keep food on the table. For the third year in a row, Attorney General Clark urged the legal community to collect diapers, in addition to food, for families in need.
In the two weeks of this year's food drive, professionals across the Vermont legal community together raised $14,304, which will supply more than $57,216 worth of food to Vermonters. All funds donated went directly to the important work of the Vermont Foodbank. Over 1,600 food donations, diapers, and other items were brought to local food shelves or meal sites partnered with the Vermont Foodbank. In the nine-year history of the food drive, the Vermont legal community has raised more than $99,000 and collected over 14,600 items.
"I want to thank everyone who participated in this year's food and diaper drive," said Attorney General Charity Clark. "Our neighbors across Vermont are struggling to keep food on the table and afford the cost of diapers. The contributions of our legal community will truly make a difference, and I am so proud of our collective effort to provide over $14,000 and over 1,600 donated items to our neighbors in need."
Vermont Bar Association President Josh Diamond said, "The Vermont Bar Association appreciates this opportunity to work with The Attorney General's Office and its members to support fellow community members in need. Food insecurity is a persistent and growing problem here in Vermont, and I am deeply grateful to all the attorneys and other members of the legal community who stepped up again this year to help our neighbors."
Lucia White, CP, Pro Bono Chair of the Vermont Paralegal Organization, said "Food insecurity is on the rise. The Vermont Paralegal Organization appreciates the Legal Community stepping up to put a dent in this problem and we are grateful to join with other legal partners to help."
"Households across the Vermont continue to need support putting food on the table. Neighbors are navigating these challenges by relying on our network of food shelves and meal sites to fill the gap. Together we can ensure that everyone in Vermont has the food they need and want. The Vermont Foodbank is grateful for the partnership of organizations like the Vermont Bar Association as we all work toward a Vermont where everyone has food security," offered John Sayles, CEO of the Vermont Foodbank.
This year's food drive participants are listed below. Within participating categories, those collecting the most items and monetary donations will be recognized at the Vermont Bar Association's Annual Meeting on Friday, September 26, 2025, at The Hilton Resort, Burlington, Vermont.
