European leaders are meeting yesterday and today in Brussels to discuss how to boost Europe's competitiveness, resilience and strategic autonomy in the current global context.
Over the past months, EU leaders have repeatedly emphasised the need to strengthen Europe's economic and industrial base to keep pace in a rapidly changing global landscape. Recent developments also show how new geopolitical tensions can translate into real pressures for industry, with rising costs for chemical inputs affecting downstream users, such as in the detergents, cleaning and maintenance products sector.
That is why, industry is sending a strong and united signal. The Antwerp Declaration for a European Industrial Deal, supported by more than 1,000 organisations across the EU, calls for urgent action to restore a solid business case for operating and investing in Europe.

But competitiveness is not a stand-alone topic; strengthening the Single Market remains key to achieving these objectives. In this context, we look forward to the 'One Europe, One Market' agenda. A more supportive regulatory framework that delivers simplification and greater predictability for industry, while ensuring that legislation remains effective and workable in practice, must be at the forefront of the discussion. For example, ensuring simplification through the Chemicals Omnibus will be key to reducing complexity, improving regulatory clarity and supporting the European industry's competitiveness.
As the voice of the European detergents, disinfectants and cleaning products industry, we continue to collaborate closely with policymakers, offering practical and evidence-based solutions for the detergents and maintenance products sector, supporting the development of a competitive, fair, and sustainable Single Market.
Now the focus is on turning these discussions into tangible action.
