Senator Alsobrooks, Lupita Nyong’o, Mandy Moore, Members of Congress, and Women’s Health Advocates Discuss the U-FIGHT Act

September 16, 2025

WASHINGTON, DC - Today, Senator Angela Alsobrooks (D-Md.) joined Lupita Nyong'o, Mandy Moore, women's health advocates, and other Members of Congress for a roundtable to discuss women's health legislation, especially Senator Alsobrooks' bipartisan Uterine Fibroid Intervention and Gynecological Health Treatment (U-FIGHT) Act. This legislation would expand access to early screening, detection, and intervention methods for individuals diagnosed with uterine fibroids. Alongside Senator Alsobrooks, Senator Cynthia Lummis (R-Wy.) is leading the U-FIGHT Act in the Senate. Congresswoman Shontel Brown (D-Ohio-11) introduced the U-FIGHT Act in the U.S. House of Representatives.

"I thank Lupita Nyong'o and Mandy Moore for coming to Capitol Hill and sharing their stories about women's health. We have become so used to telling our daughters to live through pain - it needs to stop. Women make up 51% of the population, yet only 8% of NIH research dollars go to women's health. Women and girls deserve better. 80% of all women will have fibroids in their lives, but only 0.03% of research dollars go to studying fibroids. My U-FIGHT Act would change that. We need to pass it - for our daughters."
