Road closures and traffic impacts announced for Downtown events Sept. 29 - Oct. 3

Some exciting events are coming to Downtown Iowa City Sept. 29 to Oct. 3, 2026. While details will be forthcoming, the City of Iowa City is sharing information on street closures and Iowa City Transit impacts to allow travelers time to prepare.

Street closures

These events will require the closure of Clinton Street between Washington and Jefferson streets. Both Washington and Jefferson streets will remain open to traffic during this closure.

Additionally, the 100 Block of Iowa Avenue will be closed to vehicular traffic during this event.

Iowa City Transit impacts

Beginning Sept. 29, the 6-Peninsula, 7-North Dodge, 10-West Iowa City, and 11-Rochester Iowa City Transit routes will detour due to the Clinton Street closure

6-Peninsula (Outbound)

• Detour: Washington Street to Gilbert Street to Market Street to Dubuque Street
• Stops not serviced: Clinton Street at Jefferson Street (stop 7400) and Dubuque Street at Market Street (stop 7091)

6-Peninsula (Inbound)

• Detour: Dubuque Street to Jefferson Street to Gilbert Street to Burlington Street to Clinton Street to Washington Street
• Stops not serviced: Clinton Street at Jefferson Street (stop 7207)

7-North Dodge (Outbound)

• Detour: Washington Street to Gilbert Street to Jefferson Street
• Stops not serviced: Clinton Street at Jefferson Street (stop 7400) and Jefferson Street at Linn Street (stop 7401)

10-West Iowa City (Inbound)

• Detour: Iowa Avenue to Madison Street to Burlington Street to Clinton Street to Washington Street
• Stops not serviced: Madison Street at Jefferson Street (stop 0125)

11-Rochester (Outbound)

• Detour: Washington Street to Gilbert Street to Jefferson Street
• Stops not serviced: Clinton Street at Jefferson Street (stop 7400) and Jefferson Street at Linn Street (stop 7401)

11-Rochester (Inbound)

• Detour: Market Street to Gilbert Street to Burlington Street to Clinton Street to Washington Street.
• Stops not serviced: Market Street at Linn Street (stop 7206) and Clinton Street at Jefferson Street (stop 7207).

Normal service will resume on Monday, Oct. 5, 2026.
