HON. MINISTER FOR POLICING MEETS WITH RELIGIOUS...

The Minister for Policing, Hon. Ioane Naivalurua, met with representatives from various faith- based organisations yesterday (1.09.25) at the Ministry of Policing office at the Government Buildings. The meeting, which also included the Hon. Parveen Bala and several religious leaders, was held to discuss recent alleged incidents of sacrilege.

The discussions provided a valuable opportunity for the Ministry of Policing, the Police, and religious groups to exchange views and explore ways of working together to address these concerning issues. Minister Naivalurua assured participants that the reported incidents are not politically motivated, and emphasised that the Police are taking the matter seriously, with investigations already underway.

Hon. Naivalurua highlighted that safeguarding places of worship is a shared responsibility that lies within the community and its social fabric. He further stressed that faith-based organisations, by virtue of their strong structures, resources, and deep sense of compassion, are well positioned to help address the broader social challenges facing our nation.

All participants have agreed that the meeting was an important first step in strengthening cooperation between religious groups and law enforcement. A follow-up meeting will be convened again soon to continue these discussions and chart a way forward.
