Ben Franklin Bridge to Feature Special Centennial Kinetic Lighting Shows on July 1 and July 11

Blue and green light displays will celebrate 100 years of connection across the Delaware River

The Delaware River Port Authority (DRPA) will illuminate the Ben Franklin Bridge with special kinetic lighting shows on Wednesday, July 1, the bridge's 100th anniversary, and Saturday, July 11, during the Ben Franklin Bridge 100th Anniversary Celebration.

From dusk until midnight on July 1 and dusk until 2 a.m. on July 11, the bridge's LED lighting system will feature dynamic blue and green kinetic lighting approximately every 30 minutes, beginning on the hour and half-hour. Each presentation will last approximately three to five minutes, transforming the iconic bridge with synchronized movement and color in celebration of 100 years of connecting communities across the Delaware River.

"The Ben Franklin Bridge has connected generations of people, businesses, and communities for 100 years," said John T. Hanson, DRPA Chief Executive Officer. "These special lighting presentations provide another opportunity to celebrate this extraordinary milestone and honor the bridge's lasting impact on the Delaware Valley."

The kinetic lighting shows will be visible from numerous locations along the Philadelphia and Camden waterfronts.

The July 1 lighting presentations will commemorate the bridge's official 100th anniversary. The July 11 lighting presentations will coincide with DRPA's free Ben Franklin Bridge 100th Anniversary Celebration, held from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on the Camden side of the bridge.

The Ben Franklin Bridge opened to traffic on July 1, 1926, and remains one of the Delaware Valley's most recognizable landmarks. Each year, more than 34.4 million vehicles, 5.9 million PATCO passengers, and thousands of pedestrians and bicyclists rely on the bridge to travel between Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
