Today we welcome Emma Kumer to the Opinion Shows team as a motion graphics editor. Emma will be crafting and elevating visuals throughout our portfolio, including vertical, editorial and enterprise video; our hosted shows; Op-Docs; and beyond.
Emma joins us after five years at The Washington Post, where she worked as a senior newsroom designer specializing in motion graphics. Her work there spanned video, animated illustrations, interactive stories and brand design.
Outside of her work on topics ranging from diversity, equity and inclusion to bird flight, she also built a set of custom reaction emojis for The Post's comments section and acted as a founding member of Newsprint , an annual Post subscriber data recap inspired by Spotify Wrapped. She has been awarded several honors by the Society of Publication Designers and the Society for News Design, including World's Best Emerging Designer in 2025.
Emma will be working in the first role of its kind for our Shows team, and we couldn't be more excited for her to begin.
She is in New York with us this week, but she will be working initially from Washington and starting at 620 in mid-September.
Outside of the office, you might catch Emma out on a distance run or birding in the park.
Welcome, Emma!
