Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives Kong Xianhua Meets with Mr. Thoriq Ibrahim, Minister of Tourism and Environment of the Maldives

On February 27, H.E. Mr. Kong Xianhua, Ambassador of China to the Maldives,met with Mr. Thoriq Ibrahim, Minister of Tourism and Environment of the Maldives.

Minister Thoriq spoke highly of China's remarkable achievements in economic, technological, and social development. He noted that China is a major source market for Maldivian tourism, with Chinese visitor numbers consistently ranking among the top and showing significant growth so far this year. He expressed hope to further strengthen cooperation with China by increasing direct flights, developing diversified tourism products, and enhancing safety standards for water-based activities, in order to attract more Chinese tourists to the Maldives.

Ambassador Kong stated that China and the Maldives enjoy longstanding friendship and close people-to-people exchanges. With the implementation of China's 15th Five-Year Plan and continued economic growth, he believes more Chinese tourists will visit the Maldives, injecting fresh momentum into the Maldivian economy. China stands ready to work with the Ministry of Tourism and Environment to advance tourism development, improve safety for Chinese visitors, and deepen cooperation in renewable energy and environmental protection.
