Evansville, Ind. - Jan. 8, 2025 - As crews continued long hours of power restoration work into the evening, Wednesday marked the strongest day of progress so far for CenterPoint Energy's restoration efforts across its southwestern Indiana electric system. Crews tackled extensive damage, including, downed trees, broken poles and damaged lines, to restore service to approximately 15,000 customers since 6 a.m. today. As of 10 p.m., more than 90% of customers have been restored since Sunday.
Given the significant progress, the company now believes it will substantially complete its restoration efforts by the end of the day on Thursday and possibly sooner for many. This is a full 24 hours ahead of the original restoration estimate. During the day tomorrow, progress will be slower as remaining outages are expected to be single and smaller numbers of clusters of homes and businesses.
For those customers who may remain without power, estimated restoration information for individual customer addresses is now available via CenterPoint's outage map, which can be found at CenterPointEnergy.com/Outage.
"Our crews made tremendous progress today, delivering on our commitment to restore power to a more than a quarter of all customers who lost power following Winter Storm Blair," said Shane Bradford, CenterPoint Energy's Vice President, Indiana Electric. "While the damage caused by this event has been extensive, the dedication and hard work of more than 1,000 personnel have moved us closer to completing restoration efforts by Thursday night. We know these extreme cold conditions are challenging, and we appreciate our customers' patience and understanding as we continue working through the night to bring power back to those still impacted."
Tracking next round of winter weather
The current weather forecast indicates that extremely cold conditions will persist throughout the rest of the week, with little to no thawing expected. While not anticipated to create serious impacts, the company is monitoring forecasted snow accumulation for the end of the week.
Continued updates
CenterPoint will continue to provide multiple updates each day until all customers have their power fully restored. Customers are encouraged to follow the company on social media platforms such as Facebook and X (formerly Twitter) for the latest information
