Liccardo’s Bipartisan Housing Bills Pass the House

WASHINGTON, DC - Today, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a bipartisan housing package that includes two bipartisan bills led by Congressman Sam Liccardo (CA-16), marking a major step forward in efforts to expand America's housing supply and bring down costs for families.

The package includes Liccardo's BUILD Housing Actand the Unlocking Housing Supply Through Streamlined and Modernized Reviews Act, both designed to cut federal red tape and speed construction by modernizing outdated approval processes and strengthening partnerships with state and local governments.

"We can't bring down housing prices without closing the gap between supply and demand in the market," said Liccardo. "No community feels this more acutely than mine. I'm proud to help push these bills across the finish line as a down payment on my commitment to push for many long-overdue reforms to federal housing policy."

A rare success for a first-term member of the minority party in this deeply partisan Congress, Liccardo co-led both bills with the Republican Chair of the Housing and Insurance Subcommittee, Congressman Mike Flood. Together, the bills reflect growing agreement across party lines that solving America's housing shortage requires faster federal reviews, smarter permitting, and policies that empower local communities to build.

"Growing bipartisan support to tackle our nation's housing affordability crisis offers a hopeful sign, but we have much more work to do. " said Liccardo. "Congress must press on, and I have several bipartisan housing bills ready to deliver real relief. Let's get it done."
