Progress on City of Riverside General Plan Update & Climate Action and Adaptation Plan Continues With New Online Tools

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - More than one year into its citywide planning effort, the City of Riverside continues to advance the General Plan Update (GPU) and Climate Action and Adaptation Plan (CAAP). These two efforts will guide how Riverside grows, moves, and responds to environmental changes through 2050.

The GPU focuses on topics such as land use, housing, and mobility, while the CAAP provides a roadmap for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and strengthening community resilience. Both are being shaped by local voices through workshops, pop-ups, and now new digital tools designed to make participation easier for everyone, including those who couldn't attend recent events.

We thank everyone who attended the Build the Future Workshop on Oct. 9th at La Sierra University. The workshop was an open-house style where community members explored various stations focusing on land use, mobility, arts and culture, safety and infrastructure, and climate action through fun, hands-on activities. The valuable feedback received will inform Riverside's future, helping ensure our new General Plan and CAAP reflects the community's needs, priorities, and values for years to come!

Missed the Workshop? Participate Online

Community members who couldn't attend the recent Build the Future Workshop can still take part by completing two online activities available now on Riverside2050.com. Every response helps ensure Riverside's plans reflect the community's values and everyday experiences.

  • Designing Our City Tool - Help identify where different "place types" like neighborhoods, natural areas, and business centers fit best across Riverside.
  • Mobility Survey - Share your ideas on how to make it easier and safer to move around the city by car, bike, bus, or foot. Participants who complete the survey by Nov. 14, 2025, will be entered into a drawing for a $100 grocery gift card.
