WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, U.S. Senator Pete Ricketts (R-NE) commended Omaha police following the publication of charging documents related to an October 3 shooting in Omaha. An Omaha man, whose 20-year prison sentence was commuted by President Joe Biden, was charged for the shooting. Ricketts issued the following statement:
"In 2018, Khyre Holbert was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for drug and firearm offenses. During his last days in office, President Joe Biden let him out after serving less than half his time. Earlier this month, Khyre Holbert shot someone in the Old Market. This should never have happened.
Soft on crime policies make Nebraskans less safe. I commend Omaha Police and federal law enforcement for bringing this violent criminal to justice."
