At Business Insider, we've been experimenting with AI, finding ways to harness it to be more efficient and effective. Journalists across our newsroom have been engaged in AI sprints and have shared feedback. We appreciate their participation and input.

Today, we are kicking off a new pilot phase for one of these experiments: using a custom GPT to help publish quick news stories. We have trained this custom GPT to use only stories we select from our archive, along with a piece of news, to create a story written in our style and built from our own coverage. These stories will be edited by an editor at Business Insider.

During this month-long pilot, we will aim to publish a few stories a day using this tool. These stories will carry an AI byline and make clear in a disclosure that they were created with AI and edited by a person. We may review this labeling over time.

Once we've completed the pilot, we will evaluate the results and consider next steps, including: How can we further improve the tool? How might various teams use it in the future? And does it free our staffers to spend more time on the kind of work that leads to distinguishing, impactful journalism?
