JACKSON, Miss. - Governor Tate Reeves today announced the appointment of Amanda Jones Tollison of Oxford to the Mississippi Supreme Court, Northern District 3, Place 2. This appointment fills a vacancy created by the confirmation of the Honorable James D. Maxwell II to the United States District Court for the Northern District of Mississippi.
"Amanda has distinguished herself throughout her career as an excellent attorney, respected leader in The Mississippi Bar, and dedicated public servant," said Governor Tate Reeves. "Her extensive legal experience, knowledge of Mississippi's legal system, and longstanding commitment to public service make her exceptionally qualified for the bench."
Tollison is currently a partner with Butler Snow LLP, where she has practiced since 2012. She has extensive experience in administrative law, governmental and appellate litigation, regulatory compliance matters, and election law. Before joining Butler Snow, Tollison served as legal counsel to Governor Haley Barbour from 2008 to 2012. In this role, she advised Governor Barbour on legal, legislative, and policy matters, including judicial appointments, elections, budget issues, and disaster recovery efforts.
Earlier in her career, Tollison practiced with Bradley Arant Rose & White LLP and Phelps Dunbar LLP, where she developed substantial experience in complex commercial and product liability litigation and white-collar criminal defense in both state and federal courts.
"I am deeply grateful to Governor Reeves for this appointment and humbled by his trust in me to fulfill the duties of a justice on the Mississippi Supreme Court," said Amanda Tollison. "I will faithfully uphold the Constitution and the rule of law, and I look forward to serving the people of Mississippi with integrity, fairness, and a steadfast commitment to justice."
Tollison earned her J.D. from the University of Mississippi School of Law and her B.A. from Mississippi State University. She has served as President of The Mississippi Bar, as a member of the Board of Bar Commissioners, and as a trustee and fellow of The Mississippi Bar Foundation. While serving as President of the Young Lawyers Division of The Mississippi Bar in 2005, she led the Disaster Legal Assistance Program, which provided pro bono legal services to thousands of Mississippians in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
Tollison's term will begin on September 1, 2026, and will continue until it is filled by a special election.
