Resident Commissioner Invites Governor to Collaborate on Key Initiatives for Puerto Rico

CAGUAS, P.R. - Puerto Rico Resident Commissioner Pablo José Hernández Rivera, responded to recent statements by Puerto Rico's Governor, Jennifer González Colón, in which she expressed willingness to collaborate with his office for the benefit of the island. In his letter, sent yesterday, Wednesday, Hernández Rivera identified three key areas where he considers joint efforts essential to maximize benefits for Puerto Rico.

"This is a crucial moment for Puerto Rico. Effective collaboration between your administration and my office is not only possible but necessary to advance these priorities in a coordinated manner and maximize our impact in Washington," said Hernández Rivera.

First, the Resident Commissioner reiterated his request for Governor González Colón to help recruit a Republican co-sponsor for the Child Tax Credit Relief for Puerto Rican Families Act (H.R. 1697), which aims to expand access to the Child Tax Credit for thousands of Puerto Rican families. According to Hernández Rivera, the Governor's connections within the Republican Party could be valuable in securing the bipartisan support needed for this measure to pass.

Additionally, Hernández Rivera requested that his office be integrated into the Health Task Force created by the Governor on February 8, 2025. "Coordination between your administration and my office is essential to ensure the continuity and effectiveness of efforts aimed at securing Medicaid and Medicare funding, which are vital to the health of Puerto Ricans,"Hernández emphasized.

Finally, the Resident Commissioner hopes to have the Governor's support in including his office in the Reshoring Task Force, established through Executive Order 2025-012. Hernández Rivera expects a public commitment from the Governor to endorse the Supply Chain Security and Growth Act (H.R. 1328), legislation he introduced alongside Republican Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis. The bill aims to strengthen the reshoring process in the United States and Puerto Rico, promoting investment attraction and the creation of well-paying jobs.

Hernández Rivera concluded his message by expressing his willingness to discuss these initiatives in greater detail, reaffirming his commitment to working collaboratively for the well-being and future of Puerto Rico.
