eCMR hits 40 with Albania’s accession

Albania has become the 40th country to join eCMR, the digital protocol to the United Nations CMR Convention.

eCMR has entered into force in Albania, establishing a legal foundation for fully paperless road freight in the country.

The Convention on the Contract for the International Carriage of Goods by Road (CMR), marking its 70th anniversary this year, provides legal certainty, standardises documentation, and protects both operators and consignors in road transport operations.

eCMR takes these benefits further. It lowers administrative costs, does away with paper, speeds up invoicing, raises transparency and operational visibility.

Furthermore, by moving to an electronic format, the three parties involved in each shipment benefit from greater overall logistics efficiency, resulting in improved economic competitiveness.

IRU and its members will continue to promote eCMR as a key tool to enhance the speed, efficiency and security of trade and logistics.
