This morning, we started the New Year at WFP, the key organisation of the United Nations in charge of food security and humanitarian aid led by WFP Chief Cindy McCain and her great team with DED Carl Skau.

The Executive Board elected Carla Barroso Carneiro, Brazil's committed Ambassador to the UN in Rome, as its President for 2026 and thanked with great appreciation the outgoing President Elissa Golberg, Ambassador of Canada, for her skilful and determined leadership in 2025, notably when we managed to adopt by consensus the Strategic Plan of WFP.

Multilateralism can work if we work hard for it, in a consensual way and with the readiness to make sound compromises in the interest of humanity. WFP can count on the European Union for this.
