AHAM Statement from Kelly Mariotti, AHAM President and CEO on Department of Energy Process Rule Noti

Washington, D.C. (July 2, 2026) - AHAM applauds the Department of Energy for acting swiftly and delivering a proposed Process Rule that reflects years of constructive engagement with manufacturers, consumers, and other stakeholders.

Separately, AHAM applauds the notice seeking comments to review methodologies and findings of the National Academy of Sciences. AHAM is still analyzing the details of the NOPR.

Because the Process Rule is administered by the Department of Energy, it has been subject to change from administration to administration - creating the kind of uncertainty and instability that makes it difficult for manufacturers to plan, invest, and innovate with confidence to the benefit of American consumers. A strong Process Rule today is a significant achievement, but the goal must be to make these reforms permanent.

The natural next step is for Congress to act - to amend the Energy Policy and Conservation Act and lock these reforms into statute, so that the progress made here endures. We are encouraged by the momentum we see on Capitol Hill and look forward to working with Congress and this administration to make that happen.

AHAM will engage fully in the comment process and the July 15 public meeting, and we are deeply grateful for the leadership and urgency this administration has brought to the topic of consumer choice and affordability of home appliances
