McMurry University has named Susan Decker as its new Director of Athletics, making history as the first woman to lead War Hawk Athletics.

Decker brings more than 20 years of progressive leadership experience in collegiate athletics, with a strong record of advancing competitive success, supporting student-athlete achievement, and strengthening athletic programs through strategic leadership. She most recently served as Director of Athletics at Baker University, where she oversaw a $4 million program supporting more than 600 student-athletes across 26 varsity sports.

Under her leadership, Baker Athletics experienced significant success, including conference championships, postseason appearances, and consistent academic recognition for student-athletes. Decker is also known for building high-performing teams and enhancing the student-athlete experience through initiatives such as leadership development and mentorship programs.

"Susan is a proven leader who understands the transformative power of collegiate athletics," said Dr. Lynne Murray, McMurry University President. "Her commitment to excellence, student development, and building meaningful relationships makes her an outstanding fit for McMurry. We are proud to welcome her as a trailblazer for our university."

"I am honored to join McMurry University and its vibrant community," said Decker. "McMurry's mission and values resonate deeply with me, and I look forward to building on a strong foundation while supporting our student-athletes as they pursue excellence in competition, in the classroom, and in their lives beyond college."

Before becoming an athletic director, Decker served in leadership roles at Baker University and Regis College and built a distinguished career as a head women's basketball coach, where she became the program's all-time winningest coach.

Decker's appointment signals an exciting new chapter for McMurry Athletics, grounded in excellence, opportunity, and a continued commitment to developing student-athletes who lead lives of purpose and impact.
