WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), a combat veteran who served in the Iowa National Guard and the Global War on Terrorism, and U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) are leading a Senate resolution honoring the lives and service of Sergeant Edgar Torres-Tovar from Des Moines and Sergeant Nate Howard from Marshalltown. U.S. Congressman Zach Nunn (R-Iowa) is leading this resolution in the House of Representatives.

In addition to recognizing the selfless bravery and sacrifice of the those killed by an ISIS terrorist attack in Syria over the weekend, the resolution also commends the three additional Iowa Guardsmen who were injured, condemns the horrific terrorist assault, and recognizes the families affected by this attack.

"Sergeant Edgar Torres-Tovar and Sergeant Nate Howard are American heroes," said Ernst. "As we take action to remember their legacy today, we commemorate their valor and ensure their sacrifice is never forgotten. Our Iowa National Guard members are a true testament to the selfless bravery it takes to put on the uniform and keep our homeland safe from the threat of radical Islamic terror. Americans owe them an immeasurable debt and stand with their families, loved ones, and recovering soldiers during this time."

Today, I'm joining Senator Ernst to introduce a resolution honoring these two remarkable young men. Their sacrifice will not be forgotten, and will be written in the Senate's history books forever."
